The WJEC GCSE Mathematics and Numeracy (Higher) student book has been written for the brand new specification (first teaching from September 2025). This book goes beyond traditional learning materials to offer comprehensive support throughout everyday learning and exam preparation. Ideal for classroom teaching, independent study and exam preparation, giving teachers and learners maximum flexibility.

The Higher book is for all learners who are likely to be entered into at least one Higher tier unit – with Higher tier unit content clearly marked throughout.

  • Full specification coverage
This book is organised into sections that mirror the structure of the WJEC GCSE Mathematics and Numeracy specification for Higher students, giving teachers confidence that all required topics and assessment objectives are covered and reducing the need for additional planning.

  • Step-by-step worked examples
Supporting learners with easy-to-understand explanations of all topics followed by step-by-step worked examples which they can follow independently.

  • Designed to inspire and challenge
A range of useful on-page features such as highlighted key terms, modern case studies and unit summaries help students navigate and understand content independently.

  • Revision and exam guidance
Purposeful practice questions at the end of each concept to reinforce understanding and techniques. End of section recap questions strengthen long-term retention.
Practical activities and practice revision questions (with fully worked answers) help learners build exam technique, test knowledge and understanding, and master analysis and evaluation skills.

  • Real-world relevance
The context behind mathematical concepts is given to inspire students and promote engagement. In addition, the book explicitly shows how mathematics works in the real world, with examples that use familiar and relatable contexts from across Wales and around the world to bring topics to life and make mathematics and numeracy engaging and relevant for every learner.
